Spring: March, April, May

The verdict: The best season to visit Savannah.

Spring is when Savannah is at its most spectacular. The azaleas bloom in March and April, turning the squares and Forsyth Park into a riot of pink and red. The weather is warm but not oppressive (highs in the 70s–80s°F). The city is alive with events and activity.

March: St. Patrick's Day (the second-largest celebration in the US) transforms the city in mid-March. If you want to experience it, book your hotel 6–12 months in advance. If you want to avoid the crowds, skip the week around March 17th.

April: The peak of azalea season. The Savannah Tour of Homes and Gardens typically runs in April — a beloved annual tradition showcasing the city's historic private homes.

May: Still beautiful, with warm weather and manageable crowds before the summer heat arrives.

Hotel prices: High. Spring is peak season — book early.

Summer: June, July, August

The verdict: Hot and humid, but the best time for budget travel.

Savannah summers are genuinely hot and humid. Highs regularly reach 90–95°F in July and August, with humidity that makes it feel hotter. Outdoor activities are best scheduled for early morning and evening.

That said, summer has real advantages:

  • Lower hotel prices. Summer is off-peak for most Savannah hotels, and rates drop significantly.
  • Tybee Island is at its best. The beach is warm and the water is perfect for swimming.
  • Fewer crowds. The Historic District is less crowded than in spring and fall.

Tips for a summer visit: Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, plan outdoor activities for before 10 AM and after 5 PM, and take advantage of the hotel pool.

Hotel prices: Lower than spring and fall. Good deals are available.

Fall: September, October, November

The verdict: The second-best season — and arguably the best for overall conditions.

Fall in Savannah is excellent. Temperatures moderate from the summer heat (highs in the 70s–80s°F in September and October, dropping to the 60s in November). The crowds are similar to spring but the azaleas are not blooming — the tradeoff is a slightly less dramatic visual landscape but equally beautiful weather.

September: Still warm enough for Tybee Island. The summer crowds have thinned.

October: One of the best months to visit. The weather is ideal, the city is beautiful, and Halloween brings a surge of ghost tour activity.

November: The Savannah Food & Wine Festival typically runs in November — one of the city's premier culinary events. Temperatures are comfortable and the city is at its most relaxed.

Hotel prices: High, similar to spring. Book early.

Winter: December, January, February

The verdict: Quiet, affordable, and underrated.

Savannah winters are mild by national standards — highs in the 50s–60s°F, with occasional cold snaps. The city is at its quietest and most affordable.

December: Christmas in Savannah is genuinely beautiful. The Historic District is decorated, the Tour of Homes runs, and the city has a festive atmosphere without the summer crowds. Read our Christmas in Savannah guide →

January–February: The quietest months. Hotel prices are at their lowest. The weather is cool but pleasant on clear days. A good time for a budget trip or a quiet romantic getaway.

Hotel prices: Lowest of the year. Excellent deals are available.
